Pesudointelligent trash and sexually overcharged males – Super Deluxe

Super Deluxe - Movie Review There’s what you do, and what you don’t – nothing’s right or wrong says Thyagarajan Kumararaja in his second movie. He treads the line between the real and the surreal in bringing together multiple strands of narratives into an ending, well multiple endings! The connections are quite tangential, like they were brought together so that it could be one feature film, not an anthology of short stories. The stories themselves look like they were written by different writers (as they are) with almost no idea of what the other writer was up to. In spite of that, one wonders how almost every writer (save the guy who wrote the character played by Mysskin) paints at least

96 Movie Review – A nostalgia trip that you will love!

Nostalgia is one of the best feelings. Memories of the good times past is what keeps us going sometimes in life. The best times in our life are the ones spent in the classrooms and corridors of our schools and colleges, where the most innocent friendships and relationships were formed. 96 is a beautiful chronicling of that nostalgia that stills wears heavy in the hearts of two people, and maybe a bit too heavily on the heart of one. 96 is like an album of memories and the characters turning over the pages slowly, sometimes with a smile, sometimes with a tear and it all resonates with us. It is the relatability of 96 that makes it so loveable. It does

The Ponniyin Selvan connection of CCV! Mani Ratnam’s shot at redemption.

Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (CCV) might look like a Godfather rip off on the surface. At least, the first teaser gave us many hints that the Godfather influence is very strong. But, that is just the surface. We feel, as do quite a few people on social media, that there could be a deeper connection to one of Tamil literature’s most loved epics – Ponniyin Selvan. Let’s look at how this connection makes sense. Ponniyin Selvan had an ageing king (Sundara Chozhan) who had three children. Here, an ageing don (Senapathi played by Prakash Raj) has three children. Ponniyin Selvan begins with conspirators trying to dethrone the already ailing king, with the obvious successor being seen as his eldest son Adithya

Thuppakki Munai Teaser: A ‘Gun Point’ Thriller in the offing?

Thuppakki Munai literally translates to Gun point! So we know we are in for an action-packed journey right from the title itself. Vikram Prabhu has been having it a bit rough for a while now. His career started off quite strongly, but somewhere he seemed to have lost his nose for selecting fine scripts, or perhaps he wanted to experiment with himself in some regular commercial potboilers where the hero is almost invincible. That didn’t come off too well, and now we see the Thuppakki Munai teaser which seems to be less of a hero vehicle and more of a plot-driven product. The opening lines of the teaser introduce us to Vikram Prabhu as a sharp cop, perhaps an encounter specialist,

2.0: A Teaser for schoolkids!! Why?

The biggest cinematic event of the year made its first appearance two days back, and it was truly a historic day. India’s first native 3D film, the first time ever that a teaser had an official theatrical release with advance bookings (even though free) that were sold out – this was Superstar effect at its most magnificent. All that’s fine, but what does the teaser tell us about the magnum opus! That 2.0 was going to be a VFX showcase was obvious from the day it was announced. Its predecessor Enthiran was a benchmark for Indian cinema in terms of visual effect standards. 2.0  just had to be bigger and better. But before getting down to the VFX, let’s look at

Billa-2-whats-right-and-whats-not

Billa 2 is receiving mixed opinions in its first weekend. While the equivocal opinion is that the movie has something for everyone, there is feeling that all the expectations from this grand prequel have not been met. Of course, meeting expectations is a humungous task because their depth is unfathomable. However, there are certain things that one thinks could have been done better in Billa 2. Here is an analysis of what works in Billa 2 and what does not. What’s right? There are a lot of good things about Billa 2. 1. The characterization Foremost among them is the characterization. Not only David Billa, but each and every character in the movie is well-etched and is given enough space. Be it Abbasi, Dmitri,
